As a Formula 1 fan for over 30 years, I am dismayed by the direction our favorite sport is taking. Recent decisions by F1 seem to ignore the true aspirations of the fans, prioritizing profit at the expense of the sport’s richness. While the enthusiasm for F1 certainly generates colossal revenues, this should not come at the expense of the authenticity and integrity of the traditional calendar. The 2027 calendar that has just been unveiled is a perfect illustration of this downward spiral.

In addition to offering us soporific sprint races on tracks that are often ill-suited, the height of absurdity is now proposing a sprint race in Monaco... The overcrowding of the calendar cannot continue; it diminishes interest in the competition and seriously harms all stakeholders.

Formula 1 claims that 75% of fans support the sprint format, but this statistic raises doubts about its reliability and transparency. The true voices of the fans are not being taken into account. It is crucial that F1 conduct a genuine international survey accessible to all fans, with the results made public. This survey should include key questions: Should the number of sprint races be increased at all circuits, limited to a select few, or should this format be reduced or even eliminated?

We are not simply asking for an economic or strategic reassessment, but for the opinions of those who keep Formula 1 alive—its fans—to be truly taken into account. We need F1 to remain a sport of excellence, where passion, heritage, and innovation come together, without being hijacked by purely financial interests.
