The Issue

Hi! My name is Emily, and I’m the owner of Tywardreath Bakery. I’m writing to you about a community project that is very close to my heart.

As you may know, the old toilet block around the corner from us has been abandoned for too long. We’ve submitted a detailed proposal to turn this space into a community bread hub and a bakery with a premises, a place where we can offer free bread-making and life skills classes to local children, schools, and community groups. We believe this would be a wonderful way to revitalize a neglected space and offer something valuable to our village.

Located at Vine Place (a place we have all walked past and looked at in despair) in Tywardreath, the abandoned toilet block has been sitting unloved for too long. I propose we transform this space into a vibrant community bread hub and bakery space. This is not just about scaling up our bread production, but about something much more vital: education.

Children's education through practical experiences is incredibly important to me. By repurposing this site, we can offer free 'bread-ucation' sessions to children and teenagers, ensuring life skills remain vibrant and relevant for new generations. Imagine a space where young minds can explore the art of baking, learn about different types of flour, understand the value of locally grown grains, and appreciate the beauty of bread-making traditions from around the world.

We envision collaborating with local schools, community groups like cubs and brownies, and other organizations to conduct regular classes and sessions. Introducing children to alternative career paths and teaching them the cultural significance of baking can plant seeds for their future endeavors.

Additionally, by creating this community bakery, we'll be able to integrate lessons on the importance of local ingredients, tie in with local farms, incorporate foraging classes, and much more. This space can become a community focal point where the traditional art of baking not only thrives but also inspires.

The potential for this project to foster community spirit and educate our younger generations is immense. But we need your support to make it happen. Transforming the abandoned structure at Vine Place into a community bakery will require resources and permission from local authorities. Let's turn this dream into reality and nurture a space that serves our community for years to come.

Sign this petition if you believe in this vision to enrich Tywardreath with a community hub that bakes fresh bread and instills vital skills in our children. Together, we can build a future that respects the art of bread-making and shares it with generations to come. Your support can spark the change our village needs.

Thank you!
