Report the Truth About the Pahalgam Terror Attack

Report the Truth About the Pahalgam Terror Attack
The issue
We are calling on Australia’s leading media organisations to report the full truth about the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir (India)
On April 22, 2025, 26 civilians—mostly tourists—were brutally murdered in Pahalgam, Kashmir, by Islamist extremists. Survivors allege that attackers asked victims to reveal their religion, and some were reportedly forced to recite the Kalma, a sacred Islamic declaration of faith, before being executed. These were innocent people, targeted purely for their faith. Yet, this harrowing detail of the attack has been underreported or missed in much of the Australian media. This silence leaves Indian-Australians, Hindu communities, friends of India, and allies of religious tolerance feeling ignored and misrepresented.
If this pattern of selective reporting continues, it risks legitimising a dangerous double standard in how terrorism is covered—depending on the identity of the victims. Australian audiences deserve unbiased, full-spectrum reporting on global acts of terror. When Jewish civilians were attacked by Hamas, Australian media responded with detailed and empathetic coverage, rightly so. The same standards must apply here. Minimising atrocities like the Pahalgam massacre undermines trust in the media and erodes the principle of equal human dignity.
Now is the time to act. With tensions escalating between India and Pakistan following India’s legitimate self-defence response by destroying terrorist assets in Pakistan, it is crucial that the Australian public be fully informed about what triggered this conflict. Accurate and principled reporting isn't optional—it’s a democratic obligation. We urge Australia’s leading newsrooms to report the full truth about the Pahalgam terror attack and uphold the integrity of journalism. Sign this petition to demand clarity, fairness, and justice in our media.
