The members of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M university are required to live in the dedicated Cadet Dorms for their entire time in the Corps, for most of them that is their entire time in college. Cadets are required to pay $3,368 per semester for these accommodations. The rooms are small, having a living area of 12 ft x 10 ft, and extend to a door and closet area that is 17 ft, and are shared with a roommate. Cadets do not have their own bathrooms and share one with the entire hallway. Not only are these dorms small and overpriced, but they are also a health hazard. Multiple reports of black mold in the HVAC systems have been sent up, with little action being taken outside of cleaning the vents which is only a temporary fix. Respiratory illnesses are rampant among the members of the corps, with some getting so bad that cadets are bedridden for multiple weeks and coughing up blood. Many former members of the corps state that their regular issues with sickness went away after moving out of the corps dorms. 

This lack of action and care for the members of the corps of cadets who are being required to live in these conditions is unacceptable. Requiring cadets to live in these hazardous conditions and refusing to offer a long term solution is indicative of the degradation of the values that Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets once stood for. Temporary fixes aren't working, and action needs to be taken. The replacement of the dated and poorly maintained HVAC systems needs to be a top priority for the Office of the Commandant and TAMU ResLife.
