I, like many other Swedes, have a deep connection to our national song. However, the current lyrics "jag vill leva jag vill dö i norden" or in English "I want to live, I want to die in the North," seem nonsensical. The North is vast and includes not only our beloved Sweden but also Finland and other countries. This led me to believe that we need a more representative anthem.

"Guld och gröna skogar" by Hasse Andersson is a perfect alternative. It beautifully encapsulates the spirit of Sweden with its references to our golden fields and green forests which are characteristic of our landscape. This song has been part of Swedish culture since it was released in 1985 and has touched many hearts.

The current national anthem was established in 1844 (source: Swedish Institute), it might be time for an update that reflects modern Sweden while still honoring our roots.
