Families, like mine, are not receiving the quality or transparency that we need to trust the people caring for our kids and their needs in the schools. The current staff in the District's Special Education Department have consistently failed to provide adequate support and communication with families as well as Special Education support staff in the schools with the children (SpEd Teachers, Paras, etc). This has led to numerous instances where children with special needs are not getting the individualized attention and resources they deserve.

When a recent situation came up having to do with neglect and abuse in a classroom, the district swept it under the rug and dismissed the parents and the witness accounts of the situation. The way the entire situation was handled was very unprofessional. 

In other instances, some of the staff have admitted to not knowing what is happening in the classrooms and/or district meetings related to Special Education Students. They have also admitted to not wanting to be involved in certain situations and completely staying out of them.

In Colorado, it is estimated that around 11% of students require special education services (Colorado Department of Education). Despite this significant number, there have been repeated complaints from parents about unresponsive staff and insufficient educational plans tailored to each child's unique requirements. There is also a definite lack of knowledge within the staff when it comes to IEPs and the laws supporting IEPs. 

Our children and families deserve better. We need a team that is committed, transparent, and capable of delivering high-quality services and education to all students. By replacing ineffective personnel with qualified professionals who genuinely care about our children's progress and well-being, we can ensure a brighter future for all students in our district.
