Replace Israeli flags with American Flags at Pier Village

The Issue

As a deeply concerned citizen, and long time patron of Long Branch, New Jersey, I urge the community and city officials to reconsider the flag display at Pier Village.

Currently, six Israeli flags prominently fly alongside only one American flag. This display does not represent the diversity and inclusivity that our community strives for.

Those Israeli flags evoke a feeling of exclusion and discomfort for far too many people. We need our public spaces to reflect the diverse backgrounds and beliefs of all residents in our town, fostering unity and peace.

The existing display stands on a site built using eminent domain, land taken from citizens of Long Branch, and should thus be acknowledged as a ‘quasi-public forum’. It's essential that we address the concerns of our community, ensuring voices aren't just heard—they are represented.

I believe in a solution that reflects our diverse community. By replacing the Israeli flags with American flags or a broader selection of international flags, we can create an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected. It's time to align our public spaces with the shared values we uphold as a community.

Please join me in calling on Pier Village management and city officials to reconsider their flag display policy. Sign this petition to promote diversity, inclusivity, and unity for all Long Branch residents. Your signature matters and can help guide a change that benefits our entire community.

Let's take this step together and celebrate the spirit of inclusivity at Pier Village!
