As someone deeply passionate about my country and what it represents, I find the message inscribed on the plaque of Liberty, bearing the words of Emma Lazarus's 'The New Colossus', no longer pertinent to the sentiments of the majority. Over time, it seems the original spirit of these verses has been misinterpreted by many nations, leading to a harsh misconception about America - envisioning it as a place to drop their burdens rather than seek order and prosperity.

There's an argument to be made that this plaque reflected Lazarus's personal beliefs rather than the shared sentiments of an entire nation. In consideration of this, I propose to replace the plaque with a reaffirming message of liberty and independence: "All are free by default before her, never place your mind back in slavery, no one bows in America. Independence will always be as strong in your arms, as it is in hers, that holds the flame, up for everyone" - a message that emphasizes the resilience and inherent freedom of all individuals in the face of adversity.

Let's rededicate the Statue of Liberty as a true symbol of freedom and not an outlet for others' misconceived notions. This subtle change could reframe the narrative in a positive light, embracing the principles of independent thought and self-reliance that make America unique.
