Repeal the diktat to Impose Hindi language in primary schools in Maharashtra.

The Issue

We step out of our homes, in our cities, in our beloved state, Maharashtra, where echoes of foreign languages like Hindi resound more, making our ears long to hear the familiar rhythm of our vernacular, Marathi. This isn't a matter of bias, it is a plea, to allow our language to hold a significant place in the hub of communication across Maharashtra, rather than be confined within the walls of Marathi homes. Isn't the voice of millions of Marathi speakers significant and deserving of recognition?

Recently, the state government announced its decision to introduce Hindi education in schools of all mediums from the 1st to the 5th standards, a move that threatens the existence of our language. Marathi could disappear into the shadows, unspoken, and forgotten. To think Hindi would replace Marathi in rural areas, where our language is the heart of communication, is alarming.

The teaching of Hindi should not come at the expense of Marathi—a language that forms an integral part of Maharashtra's rich cultural identity. Every language is a treasure, one that people hold close to their hearts. It not only allows communication but also connects people with their cultural roots and identity.

But now, as a cloud looms over the future of Marathi, it's time we collectively raise our voices. The spread of Marathi should be reinforced across all institutions, ensuring that the young minds growing up in Maharashtra have a familiar voice resonating with their roots around them. This is not a matter of us versus them, but about preserving linguistic diversity, the right to keep our mother tongue alive, and to not feel like second class citizens in our land.

Please stand with us, lend your voice to our cause. Fight for Marathi, for the right to hear and speak it on the streets of Maharashtra, in our schools, and in our daily lives. This is our call to action; a plea for the State Government to reconsider their decision. Sign this petition, stand for diversity; stand for Marathi.
