Repeal the decision to abandon "Housing First" for the homeless

The Issue

I am a 60-year-old gay male who has experienced homelessness perpetually due to ongoing conflicts with the management of the Ryan White Program and its HIV leadership, which are 501(C) private AIDS service organizations.

Mental Health Advocacy Letter Dated 2007

Each region I find myself in brings its own set of challenges, marked predominantly by hate and discrimination. It's disheartening to acknowledge that I am a victim of a class within our society known as Targeted Individuals of Gangstalking.

With no oversight to curb this wave of hate, it is burgeoning unchecked within our communities, creating a complex social issue. Now, more than ever, we need solutions that prioritize the well-being and safety of marginalized populations, including those living with HIV. "Housing First" was a beacon of hope in addressing homelessness, especially among vulnerable groups, yet this approach is being abandoned.

Statistics have shown that the "Housing First" model significantly improves the quality of life for those experiencing homelessness, especially those with HIV. Research done by the National Alliance to End Homelessness indicates that 83% of individuals maintained housing after one year in "Housing First" programs. Such significant success rates prove that this model not only works but is essential for societal betterment.

Reverting this decision would mean taking an important step forward in addressing homelessness among high-risk communities. Housing stability provides a foundation for people to address health, employment, and personal goals. Without it, individuals are left to struggle with the compounded issues of finding safety, securing healthcare, especially in the HIV community, and striving for personal growth, all while battling the societal discrimination that still exists.

This petition is a call for organizations and policymakers to revisit the abandonment of the and r"Housing First" priority. Let us not turn our backs on those who need support most—those who've been marginalized, discriminated against, and forced to fend for themselves. Secure housing is a fundamental right, especially for the most vulnerable. Sign this petition to urge decision-makers to bring back the "Housing First" initiative and help end the crisis of homelessness in the HIV community and beyond. Your signature can make a difference in encouraging change and restoring hope to many who are still fighting for their place in this world."
