The Issue

If you live in Ohio, we need to talk. Governor Mike Dewine just signed House Bill 492 into law, and it's raising some serious concerns. This new law requires passengers in any vehicle to identify themselves, providing their name, address, and date of birth. Failure to do so can lead to a fine of up to $250 or even 30 days in jail. Sometimes both. It's hard to believe, right? But this is our current reality.

This law feels like an unnecessary invasion of personal privacy. It's not just about the inconvenience—it's about the principle. Why should passengers, who may not even be involved in any wrongdoing, have to disclose their private information? This feels like an overreach, and it's frustrating to see it happening in our state.

The penalties are also excessively harsh. A simple oversight or refusal to share personal details could lead to significant fines and even jail time. For what? Just for being a passenger in a vehicle? This punitive approach doesn't reflect Ohio’s values of fairness and justice.

As someone who calls Ohio home, I am deeply concerned about the impact of this law on our community. It places unnecessary burdens on everyday citizens and erodes trust between the public and law enforcement. We should be moving towards more sensible and just legislation, not laws that intimidate and punish unnecessarily.

Join me in urging our state representatives to repeal this intrusive and punitive law. Let's stand up for our rights and demand sensible policies that respect our privacy. Please sign this petition and let’s make our voices heard.
