Repair/Reopen LA 119 Bayou Pierre Bridge Gorum, La
The Issue
On May 15, 2024 the main bridge on LA 119 over Bayou Pierre in Gorum, LA was inspected.
In April 2025 DOTD closed the main bridge to Gorum, LA with no direction or timing of repair/replacement completion.
The extended closure of the main bridge in Gorum has caused residents to take a route to Natchitoches that is 45-60 minutes on roads that are in bad condition which causes dangerous travel.
It also has cut off residents of Gorum from the post office, local dump as well as the volunteer Fire Dept. It is a 35-40 minutes detour to gain access to these community services. To have such a delay in emergency response is a community concern.
These types of delays cause community safety concerns, an increase in gas usage and additional wear on vehicles.
