The Issue

As a concerned citizen of Louisville, KY, I believe that education is the key to growth and an economic driver. One such educational resource that has been invaluable to our community is the Rauch Planetarium. This institution has played a pivotal role in teaching our children about the natural world around them, sparking curiosity and fostering scientific literacy.

However, it has come to my attention that this vital resource is no longer accessible to the public or schools. This closure not only deprives our children of a valuable learning experience but also hinders their overall academic development.

The Rauch Planetarium and Gheens Science Hall served some over 10000 students a year from the greater Louisville Area each year through school trips, public shows and summer camps. The pandemic forced a closure and it has not been open to the public since.

The reopening of Rauch Planetarium would not only benefit our students but also offer a first look at the University of Louisville as a possible place for college.

I urge you all - educators, parents, students and concerned citizens alike - let us rally together for this cause. Let us ensure that future generations have access to this unique educational resource which inspires wonder about our universe and fosters a love for science among young minds.

Please sign this petition urging authorities to reopen the Rauch Planetarium for public and school use.
