The Issue

The Petticoat Creek Pool has been a cherished part of life for generations of residents and families in our community. Since opening in the summer of 1975, it served as a gathering place where families, friends, and visitors came together to enjoy the summer months. People traveled from across the region to spend a day at the pool. It was more than just a place to swim—it was a cornerstone of our community and a treasured part of countless childhood memories.

Today, the pool sits abandoned, a symbol of a tradition that has been lost but not forgotten.

The closure of the Petticoat Creek Pool has left a significant void in our community. The pool was never just about swimming; it was about bringing people together. It provided a safe, welcoming space where people of all ages could connect, socialize, and create lasting memories. For decades, it offered relief on hot summer days and a place where families could spend quality time together. Its absence continues to be felt by many.

Bringing back the pool is about more than restoring a recreational facility. It is about reviving a sense of community, preserving a piece of our local history, and ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities to create memories that so many of us cherish today. Reopening the pool would strengthen community connections, encourage active and healthy lifestyles, and provide an important public space for residents and visitors alike.

Studies consistently show that access to public recreational facilities improves quality of life, promotes physical and mental well-being, supports local tourism, and helps reduce social isolation, particularly among youth and seniors. Investing in community spaces is an investment in people.

We urge the appropriate decision-makers to commit to the repairs, restoration, or replacement necessary to bring the Petticoat Creek Pool back to life. This is not simply an expense—it is an investment in the future of our community.

Pickering has a casino. Pickering has a Porsche Experience Centre. What we are asking for is far simpler: we want our pool back.

Not just any pool—the Petticoat Creek Pool.

We call upon everyone who has fond memories of summers spent at Petticoat Creek to join this effort. Share your stories, spread the word, and support the movement to restore this beloved community landmark.

Together, we can ensure that future generations experience the same joy, laughter, and sense of community that made the Petticoat Creek Pool so special for over four decades.
