Albany needs the Hospital Hydro-pool OPEN!

For many years, the much-utilized Hydro-Pool at the Albany Health Campus has been closed, initially due to COVID. This pool played an indispensable role in the lives of many local people. 

The closure of this pool has severely impacted:

·       approximately a hundred individuals living with arthritis who frequented it weekly for therapy. 

·       provided therapeutic sessions for people living with disabilities, many of whom are in wheelchairs 

·       school children with special needs 

·       general rehabilitation recommended by physiotherapists.

The City of Albany completed a feasibility study for a hydro-pool at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre (ALAC), where the demand was found to be the second highest to a 50m pool. Unfortunately, due to funding it could be another 8-10 years before the upgrades could be completed. This clearly shows the need and urgency to bolster resources for hydrotherapy in our community. 

Currently speaking to politicians and Albany Health Campus, but we need your help to push for the re-opening and maintaining of the pool for all to use as progress has been too slow

The reopening of the hospital hydro-pool will not only reinstate an invaluable resource for our community members living with chronic illnesses or disabilities but also underline our Health Department’s commitment to public health and inclusivity.
