Reopen the Climbing Wall at Capilano University in University Highlands
The Issue
Sadly, the climbing cave was closed alongside of Quest University. With Capilano University taking Quest's place, it is my dream to rebuild and reopen the wall. Ideally, the climbing wall would be both accessible to CapU students, staff, and the community of Squamish.
Reopening the climbing wall will not only revive enthusiasm for climbing but will also increase its accessibility to newcomers who might find the sport intimidating or expensive. A recent survey by the Canadian Campus Recreation Association highlighted that 74% of students reported increased stress levels when physical activities were not accessible.
Moreover, by reintegrating this facility, we can encourage participation and foster a more active, engaged student body and public.
I am reaching out to the community, local climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts to support this cause. Help us bring back a cornerstone of our campus, ensure that climbing’s popularity continues to grow, and improve accessibility for everyone eager to take up the sport.
Sign this petition to show your support and to let the university administration know that reopening the climbing wall is a priority for us all.
