Reopen the Badminton Ministry at The Refinery

The Issue

The Badminton Ministry at Saddleback Church opened in the summer of 2010. It operated for 10 years strong before closing due to the COVID pandemic in 2020. Open two days a week, approximately 30-60 players came to fellowship each time at The Refinery on the Lake Forest campus. The mission of the Badminton Ministry is to build relationships through badminton and to share God's love with our neighbors.  We are a group of people from all walks of life who enjoy playing badminton together, meeting new friends, and having fun!

The Badminton Ministry is set apart from other badminton clubs in several notable ways. The environment is welcoming and all the equipment (racket, shuttlecock, etc.) is prepared and available for anyone to use. This is especially attractive for beginners who may just be wanting to try out a new sport. Occasionally, there are free workshops taught by badminton professionals who teach any attendee whom has an interest in improving their game. Other events, such as a potluck party, bring the players together and many meaningful friendships have been formed through the Badminton Ministry. And all of this is provided for free to the community!

In addition to playing badminton, the participants have also supported various food drives hosted by the church over the years. Annually, the Badminton Ministry hosts a tournament and collects food donations for the food pantry as the entry fee.

Now that other related facilities in the community are reopening, the Badminton Ministry remains closed. Instead, the Badminton Ministry has been asked to find a new home off the church property.

Please join us in signing the petition to ask Pastors Andy and Stacie Wood to allow the Badminton Ministry to reopen at The Refinery at Saddleback Church Lake Forest.
