I am a local resident who has been using the slipway at Antrim Lough shore for over 20 years, launching various personal watercraft alongside my father. This location holds a significant place in our hearts and represents a cherished tradition. However, recently this slipway was blocked off due to concerns about algae blooms in the water.

Despite these concerns, no measures have been taken to prevent other water sports (eg. open water swimmers) from entering the water. Other water sports continue unabated while our personal watercraft community is denied access to this vital facility. Therefore, it seems unfair and unjustified that we are singled out and denied access.

Algae blooms are indeed an environmental concern that requires attention. Although why is it only we are being stopped from continuing our sport?

We propose that instead of blocking access completely, more sustainable solutions could be explored which would benefit all users of Antrim Lough shore.

We call on local authorities to reconsider their decision and reopen the jet ski slipway at Antrim Lough shore for use by personal watercraft enthusiasts like us who have long enjoyed this treasured locale. Please sign this petition if you support our cause.
