Reopen Mountain View Cemetery to 7 days a week!

Reopen Mountain View Cemetery to 7 days a week!
The Issue
We the undersigned respectfully request that Oakland's Mountain View Cemetery restore full daily access to all visitors.
The Cemetery limited access in the wake of the Covid Epidemic when, for a time, foot traffic increased significantly. Access to walkers is still limited to just three days a week.
Since the Cemetery opened in 1865, visitors have appreciated the pleasure of strolling its beautiful pathways. Frederick Law Olmsted was the designer of Mountain View. Recognized as the father of American landscape architecture, Olmstead revolutionized landscape design by creating and popularizing public parks throughout the country, from urban spaces to protected wildlife areas. He espoused a theory that green public spaces were vital to both the American people and American democracy.
We have in our neighborhood such a precious jewel of public space in Mountain View Cemetery. Those of us privileged to enjoy Mountain View, those of us who tread its paths, who are replenished by its beauty, its tranquility, its spectacular views, and who know its sacred value, make this appeal for the common good.
Befitting the obligations of its nonprofit status, we believe it behooves the Mountain View Cemetery Board of Trustees to restore full access.
