Can you believe it is Day 42 since closure of the Mersey Community Hospital ED began:

Thank you again for signing and sharing this petition far and wide, we are almost at 1000 signatures.

It has been a while since the last update, like many I have been busy and adjusting to this strange new "normal" we find ourselves in.

According to the premier things are about to change again with restrictions gradually beginning to lift.

One thing we are hearing very little about though is our local emergency department. There are still no assurances or timeline as to when we will have access to quality local care again.

According to a recent article in the The Advocate (May 10 2020) the best our health minister can offer is a vague statement that it was important that the reopening of the Mersey ED was done so in accordance with "the best clinical advice".

This is NOT good enough!!

In the same article shadow health minister Sarah Lovell hit the nail on the head by saying:

Tasmanian's "deserve transparency" around when the Mersey ED will "resume full capacity".

I know where my vote will be going.

In more positive news another article in The Advocate (May 12 2020) celebrated the amazing work of our nurses. A nurse interviewed in the article recalls a time when the Mersey was "an acute hospital with major surgeries, orthopaedics, a busy surgical ward and intensive care unit,".

In other words the hospital our community deserves.

Demand an end to the deliberate denial of health services to our community by the Tasmanian government!

Demand answers to the question of when our ED will reopen and how future closure will be prevented!

Stay safe and keep spreading this petition far and wide.

Warm regards,

Tasmanian Citizen
