The Issue

Too many dangerous mentally ill individuals are roaming our streets, posing a threat to themselves and the community. In today's society, we are witnessing a disturbing increase in incidents involving mentally unstable individuals, and it is becoming alarmingly clear that the current mental health system is inadequate in handling these cases effectively.

There was a time when insane asylums, though not perfect, provided a structured environment where the severely mentally ill could receive the care and attention they needed. While there were certainly issues with these institutions in the past, closing them entirely without viable alternatives has left us vulnerable. The existing mental health services are overwhelmed, underfunded, and often cannot provide long-term care for individuals who desperately need it.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, and a significant portion of these cases are classified as severe. Unfortunately, the resources available for treating these individuals are stretched thin, resulting in insufficient care and increasing the odds of dangerous encounters.

We propose reopening and reforming insane asylums to cater specifically to those whose conditions pose a significant threat to public safety. This would not only improve the quality of life for these individuals by providing continuous care but also relieve the burden on families and communities worried about their safety.

Help us advocate for a realistic, structured approach to managing mental health crises by reopening and reforming asylums with better regulations and modern treatment protocols. Sign this petition to urge policymakers to reconsider this critical component of our mental health infrastructure for the safety and well-being of us all.
