The Issue

As a resident of Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, I am personally affected by the severe traffic congestion that has plagued our community. The build-up at peak hours is incredibly frustrating and was never this bad when Hollywood Avenue was open to through traffic. We are losing precious hours waiting in traffic, which not only affects our daily lives but also contributes significantly to air pollution due to idling vehicles.

The closure of Hollywood Avenue has resulted in increased traffic from Salters Road all the way down Church Road to Hadricks Mill. This situation calls for immediate attention as it is affecting the quality of life for residents and contributing negatively towards environmental health.

Accordingly, we propose that Hollywood Avenue be reopened for cars and bikes while prohibiting heavy goods vehicles. This would help reduce the current pressure on other roads and contribute towards a smoother flow of traffic.

Research indicates that long-term exposure to vehicle exhaust can lead to respiratory problems (source: World Health Organization). By reducing congestion, we would also be taking a step forward in improving air quality in our neighbourhood.

We urge local authorities to consider this proposal seriously. It's time we reclaim our streets from unbearable congestion and work together towards a healthier environment for all residents of Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. Please sign this petition if you agree with us!
