Reopen England Springs Rail Crossing between Long Lane and Spark Mill Lane

The Issue

The sudden closure of the England Springs Rail Crossing, without any prior notification to local residents and cottage owners, epitomises a disregard for community welfare.  Dismissed with nothing more than a solitary note affixed to a lamppost, this action has upended lives and severed vital connections.  While National Rail cites safety concerns, the historic crossing has stood for over a century without incident until this arbitrary decree.

This closure is not merely an inconvenience; it's a violation of public rights. The residents' access between Long Lane and Spark Mill Lane, once a fundamental artery of daily life, has been callously severed. Families now face arduous detours through Spark Mill, drastically elongating their daily journeys to town, schools, and nurseries. What was once a five to ten-minute trip has ballooned into an exhausting ordeal.

Let's not overlook the fundamental truth: when utilised properly, this crossing is safe, boasting clear sightlines that afford pedestrians and commuters ample warning of approaching trains. Furthermore, the closure compounds existing challenges, as nearby construction has rendered the adjacent Bridle Way impassable.

For the sake of the residents' well-being and the preservation of their quality of life, particularly those in the historic cottages, reopening this crossing is imperative until a viable alternative is established. The public's rights cannot be trampled upon with such impunity.
