Liz Ireland started this petition to First Minister Scotland (Nicola Sturgeon) and

Linn park adventure playground is a much loved centre for children with disabilities. This establishment has been a treasured refuge for the safe and secure play of children with additional support needs for decades.

The park was closed over lockdown and has never been fully opened to it's service users. Glasgow Life now plan to reopen only one part of the inside service, only allowing pre-booked access to the centre's sensory room. Those with loved ones with ASN will be aware of the challenges of this. If our children are only permitted access to one part of a building they once used in free-flow, without the freedoms they once had to enjoy the areas of their choosing, this could lead to significant distress for them. As we are all aware, covid has had a significant impact on the children of Scotland but none more so than those who have additional needs. The services which once gave them the support they needed to live a full and engaged life were suddenly taken from them. Now is the time to fully reinstate the services of this vital and much cherished service.

Moreover, Linn Park adventure playground is a much neglected establishment. The potential for it to enrich the lives of the young ASN community is huge. At a time when Glasgow Life has sunk £66 million pounds into the regeneration of the Burrell Collection I am left astounded that such a valued and valuable resources has seen such neglect. There have been times over the years the park has been closed due to leaking of sewage into the services sand pit. For this issue to happen over and over again is an indication of the disrepair it has fallen into.

I have witnessed children, who have no sense of the dangers they may face, climbing over the inept fencing surrounding the playground as well as countless other stories of the service being unfit for purpose. I'm sure those of you who have taken the time to read through this will empathise with the despair parents with ASN children who attend face. Our children cannot play in the beauty of Glasgow's parks for their own safety. They do not know the dangers of running away, stepping into any bodies of water that may be around or even crossing a road. This service is the only one of it's kind in the west of Scotland. It has been a haven for the children who use it as well as the families who attend for some much need respite and connection to their community.

As such not only does this service need to reinstated in full but it needs to be invested in. The investment is NOT in a building but in the lives of children and families of disabled children who already have to contend with being marginalised and forgotten. These children often do not have a voice and it is up to us to fight for them.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, article 23, states the disabled child's right to independence and dignity as well as being part of a community. By not providing children with a full range of play, resources and reducing the community they are part of, Glasgow Life are neglectful of these rights.

THIS PRECIOUS RESOURCE NEEDS TO BE FULLY REOPENED AND INVESTED IN FOR THIS AND OTHER GENERATIONS TO COME!

Thank you
