The rooftop pool and recreation deck at Kev Carmody House have been closed since 29 June 2026 for renovations, and are not expected to reopen until around 9 October 2026. That's roughly 15 weeks without one of the building's most heavily advertised features, while we've all kept paying full rent. On top of that, the construction noise can be heard in the rooms below the pool area, often starting early in the morning. It's making it harder to sleep and study in our own rooms.

We're asking UQ Res for a 15% reduction in weekly rent (about $64/week at $429/week) for the closure period, applied as a credit to each resident's account. We're not disputing that the works are needed, and we're not asking anyone to withhold rent. Please keep paying on time. We think it's unfair to pay full price for a building with a pool deck we can't use while dealing with early-morning construction noise.
