Renovate the Tamiami Park Roller Rink

Renovate the Tamiami Park Roller Rink
The Issue
People—especially kids—LOVE rollerblading. It’s a fun, accessible way to stay fit, and compared to expensive gym memberships, it’s incredibly affordable. It is surprising, then, that the Tamiami Park roller rink remains underutilized despite the thousands of visitors the park sees every week.
The reasons for this are clear:
- The Intense Miami Heat: No one enjoys skating under the intense, scorching South Florida sun.
- Safety Hazards: The current concrete floor is unforgiving. A simple fall can easily turn into a trip to the ER.
- Poor Performance: Worn concrete is too slick, lacks grip for safe turns, and vibrates through your skates, causing foot fatigue.
The Solution: A full renovation of the rink to include professional sports tile flooring and a permanent roof/cover.
We, therefore, respectfully petition Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the Board of County Commissioners, and the Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Department (Director Christina White) to fund and complete a full renovation of the Tamiami Park roller rink.
This renovation must include:
- A permanent roof or cover to protect skaters from rain and extreme heat.
- Durable sports tile flooring for a "cloud-nine" glide, consistent grip, and safer play year-round.
A renovated rink would serve a diverse community:
- Families seeking a safe, shaded place for kids to play and skate.
- Skating Enthusiasts looking for a smooth, high-performance surface.
- Roller Hockey Players.
- Multi-Sport Users – including Box Lacrosse, Cage Soccer, and ball hockey players who thrive on tiled surfaces.
Many cities across Florida already enjoy covered, tiled outdoor rinks. Miami should be no exception!
Sign and share if you want safer, more reliable roller skating for our kids and families. Supporters from across Miami-Dade County are welcome!
