As a young family living in Palos Hills, IL, we cherish the outdoor spaces where our children can play and grow. However, our neighborhood park is in dire need of renovation. It's not just us; many families in our community share the same sentiment and desire for better outdoor facilities within walking distance from home.

Our park has been neglected for years now. The playground equipment is outdated and unsafe, the green spaces are poorly maintained, and there are no adequate facilities for parents to sit or supervise their children comfortably.

According to a study by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), parks play a vital role in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and community cohesion among residents. Yet our local park falls short of providing these benefits due to its current state.

We urge the local government of Palos Hills to prioritize the renovation of this neighborhood park. This includes updating playground equipment to meet safety standards and creative play, utilizing empty spaces, and installing comfortable seating areas for parents or guardians watching over their kids.

We understand this area is reserved for water retention, but there is a lot that still can be done to maximize this area. 

Some ideas include: 

• New playground set (zipline, climbing dome, etc.) 
• Soccer nets 
• Baseball/ kick ball bases
• Picnic tables and additional seating 
• Gated areas for safer play 

Let's give our children -and all future generations- an inviting space where they can enjoy their childhood while fostering a love for nature and outdoor activities. Please sign this petition urging authorities to renovate our neighborhood park now!
