As residents of our proud city, we live every day under the unnecessary shadow of a name that feels foreign and disrespectful to us - Yankee Valley Blvd. The road's name feels like an odd tribute to Americans, and given ongoing disagreements between the US and our beautiful country, the name feels like a slap in the face. 

There are countless examples of local heroes, historical events, or cultural symbols that could be considered to reflect the true spirit and character of our community. Ensuring that our landmarks, like this one, echo our unique identity strengthens community bonds, nurtures socio-cultural growth, and instills a sense of pride among residents. 

It is not a quick-fix attempt to undo or mask historical events. Rather, a call for consideration, acknowledgement of our local identity, and an affirmation of our unique spirit. Please, sign this petition to reconsider the name of Yankee Valley Blvd. Let's embrace a name that truly represents us and pays homage to our local heritage, as opposed to foreign tribute.
