Renaming Windtree Park will acknowledge and credit Dan Hubbell’s outstanding contributions to facilitating its creation. Dan Hubbell’s tireless efforts while serving for the City of Newcastle discovered earmarked money for the park’s creation. Without his efforts, the money would have remained buried in city files. Beyond finding the funding, the Hubbells hosted planning meetings at their home, working alongside the community to mold the park into what it is today. Hours of filing and discussion have created something incredible. Described as a “hidden gem” by visitors, Windtree Park has provided countless precious moments to the community. Beyond creating this park, Dan served the City of Newcastle for nine years. As a council member, planning commission member, and deputy mayor, Dan devoted much of his time to serving the city. By renaming Windtree Park to Hubbell Park, Dan and the Hubbell family’s tireless efforts will be given the credit they deserve.
