WHEREAS the Calgary Peace Bridge weathered a stormy beginning to become one of the most beloved and photographed icons in Calgary and, 

WHEREAS the Peace Bridge name was decided by city council in 2009 as a tribute to the Military and,

WHEREAS the Poppy Plaza inaugurated in 2013 on Memorial and 10th Street is an amazing tribute to our military and an outstanding memorial to those who fought for our freedoms and better reflects our respect to their sacrifices and,

WHEREAS Lanny McDonald is a beloved ambassador, icon and hero for the citizens of Calgary through his contribution to winning the Calgary Flames first Stanley cup in 1989, his kind contribution and peaceful demeanour in his philanthropic endeavours, his selfless support of those in need and through Calgary's general respect and appreciation for him as a great representative of our city,

We, as citizens of Calgary, would like to petition to rename the Peace Bridge to the Lanny McDonald Bridge - The Big Red Moustache - to honour a respected citizen committed to serving the betterment of the Calgary community.
