Rename the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Omaha, NE to the Bob Gibson Bridge

The Issue

Omaha needs to stop pretending that Nebraska Nice means looking the other way while our most iconic landmark honors a man whose legacy is a minefield of documented scandals. While local media fixates on his recent resignation from a university board, they are ignoring a deep history of public accusations and crimes right here in Nebraska. During his time as Governor and Senator, Kerrey was named by victims and witnesses as a participant in the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union scandal. Despite high profile allegations of an organized abuse ring in Omaha, a 1990 grand jury conveniently labeled the claims a "hoax."

The Epstein files reveal that Kerrey did not just have a one off meeting with Jeffrey Epstein; he visited his private townhouse multiple times years after Epstein was a registered sex offender. Kerrey even admitted he was fully aware of Epstein's convictions before choosing to associate with him. His name appears in these records well over 300 times. To add to this track record, he has openly admitted to being a war criminal decades after his actions became so notorious they were featured in museum exhibits.

The goal of this petition is to show the victims of these crimes that we hear them and we are standing with them. To honor an actual hero of Omaha instead of a friend of a pedophile who has been accused of involvement in one of the largest child sex trafficking cases in Nebraska history. It is time to say Bye Bob and introduce a Bob we can actually be proud of.

Bob Gibson was born and raised in North Omaha, is a Creighton alumnus and remains the most accomplished athlete ever born in this state. With seven different days named in his honor, a legendary career as a two time World Series MVP, and a place in the Hall of Fame, he represents the excellence this city claims to value.

The transition is seamless because the bridge nickname stays Bob, but the name will finally represent integrity instead of a liability. This change saves the city thousands in marketing costs while shifting the spotlight to a man who earned it rather than someone who brings shame to our skyline.

Please help show your support for the victims and honor an actual hero by signing this petition.
