Above is a copy of one of the many legal documents pertaining to my adoption order from 1973. To avoid any confusion for those who are NOT familiar with adoption, my mother named me Leeanne, a nurse at KEMH named me Marissa and then my adoptive parents gave me the name, Jennifer.
All adopted people have 2 birth certificates (more about that later).
It seems that Grant was required to also give her consent to our adoptions as she was our legal government guardian until we were finally adopted via a court order in the 12-24 months after our birth. Grant was in essense, our paper 'mother' after we were taken from our mother, handed over to biological strangers and the legal adoption process was finalised.
Since the announcment of the WA inquiry in February 2023, we have noticed that the Dept of Communities have started redacting Grants name from our paperwork. I'd like to know why. (Grant died in 2017).
I urge every Ngala adoptee to apply for their records from the Dept. of Communities (Form 303), in your suite of paperwork you should also have a similar document as I have shared above and if it's not included, ask why.
