For decades, one of the world's most common coffee orders - a shot of espresso topped up with hot water - has carried the name "Americano." Italian baristas coined it during WWII because American soldiers couldn't handle their espresso at full strength and needed it watered down.

Meanwhile, a certain someone has had quite the year renaming things - first the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, this week decided to rename Lake Ontario, a native name given centuries before they even existed, to, you guessed it, Lake America. Even floated calling the Strait of Hormuz the "Strait of America"...

So here's the ask: cafés, roasters, and coffee chains everywhere - your local independent spot and the big groups like Costa, Caffè Nero, Pret A Manger, Gail's, Tim Hortons, Starbucks (outside the US), Nestlé, Lavazza, illy, Luckin - join the growing number of cafés already calling it a Canadiano.

It costs nothing. It's just a name on a menu board. But it's a small, cheeky way for the other 95% of the world to stop ordering a drink named after one country, and start using a name that's a bit more, well, international in spirit.
