The Council of Trustees met yesterday and President Fiorentino reported the commission of an investigative committee into Schmucker's published works. There is no confirmed timeline for this committee, only that the results will not be quick. This committee will consist of faculty, staff, AND students. There is no answer as to whether the name will be changed and if so, what that name would be.
Bottom line is this: Fiorentino still gives no concrete answers or actions, BUT this is the first step to changing the name. The Council of Trustees also amended the building naming policy in October to allow for renaming a building- making it possible to rename Schmucker science center. There's still a long way to go, but this is a win for the students. We have to keep pushing and sharing petitions, research, etc for this campaign.
