Every year, countless hardworking Indians like myself experience the frustration and injustice of dealing with the Indian Income Tax Department. As a member of the working-class public, I have witnessed firsthand how the system feels more like a robbery than a fair taxation office.

The delays we face in processing income tax refunds are unreasonably long. For many taxpayers, the wait can stretch into months, if not years, leaving us without the funds that are rightfully ours. This kind of inefficiency and disregard for the public’s time and money only adds to our financial burdens.

On the other hand, any delays on our part are met with severe penalties. Even if we miss a due date by a single day, we are charged with fines that can tally up to Rs. 200 per day. Such harsh treatment is unfair especially when juxtaposed against the department's delayed responses to our entitled refunds. This system disproportionately punishes those who are already contributing their hard-earned salaries, creating an environment of fear rather than fairness.

The very department designed to manage and protect our financial contributions often feels like it's doing the opposite. It’s time to call out this injustice and demand change. Renaming the Indian Income Tax Department to the 'Income Thieves Department' might be a satirical move, yet it encapsulates the sentiments of many frustrated citizens who feel swindled rather than served by those meant to manage our taxes responsibly.

This petition seeks not only to bring attention to these grievances but also to advocate for a more transparent and efficient system that honours the trust and contributions of taxpayers in India. We deserve a taxation body that works for us, not against us.
