We, the undersigned residents, stakeholders and well-wishers of Dakshina Kannada, respectfully submit our opinion in support of the proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada District as Mangaluru District.

We request the Government of Karnataka to consider the following:

Mangaluru is the headquarters and a widely recognised identity associated with the district.
The name Mangaluru has significant recognition within Karnataka, across India and internationally.
The proposed name provides a clear administrative identity associated with the district headquarters while retaining the cultural, linguistic and historical heritage of the region.
The proposed change should be considered through a transparent public consultation process, taking into account the views of residents from all taluks and communities of the district.
The rich cultural heritage of Tulunadu, including Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, Beary and other linguistic and cultural traditions, should continue to be respected and protected irrespective of the administrative name of the district.
Therefore, we respectfully request the Government of Karnataka to consider the public representations received during the consultation and take an appropriate decision on the proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada District as Mangaluru District.
