Rename Cesar Chavez Blvd to honor Jovonie Ochoa and all children

The Issue

I saw the photos of Jovonie Ochoa 22 years ago—and they never left me. No one who saw what that child endured could ever forget it.

Jovonie was only four years old. He was starved to death and died on Christmas morning. A child who should have been opening gifts… instead lost his life. He didn’t have a voice. But we do.

This petition calls for Cesar Chavez Blvd to be renamed Jovonie Ochoa Boulevard—not just to honor him, but to represent every child who has suffered abuse, those we remember like Diamond Alexander and Sarah Brasse and those we never knew.

His name would stand as a permanent reminder that we cannot look away—that our children must be protected.

This is not about politics. It’s about conscience.

We urge our city leaders to act. Rename this boulevard and make a promise to every child: you are seen, you matter, and you will be protected.

In addition to signing this petition, please visit SASpeakUp.com/StreetNameSA and submit “Jovonie Ochoa” as your recommendation.

Sign. Speak up. Take action.
Let’s make sure Jovonie—and all child victims of abuse—are never forgotten.
