Rename Almond Grove Park in Antelope, CA to Corporal Gurpreet Singh Park

Rename Almond Grove Park in Antelope, CA to Corporal Gurpreet Singh Park
The Issue
We respectfully urge the Sunrise Recreation and Park District and Sacramento County officials to rename Almond Grove Park, located at 7691 Eagle Point Way in Antelope, California, to Corporal Gurpreet Singh Park in honor of a local hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Corporal Gurpreet Singh, a proud resident of Antelope, grew up in this very neighborhood. After graduating from Oakmont High School, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of serving in the United States Marine Corps. In 2011, during his second deployment in the Sangin district of Afghanistan, Cpl. Singh was tragically killed in action. He was just 21 years old.
For his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice, Cpl. Singh was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Combat “V” for valor—two of the highest military honors. A memorial bench already stands in his memory at Almond Grove Park, but we believe a full renaming of the park is a more fitting and lasting tribute.
This change is more than symbolic—it is a statement that our community remembers and honors its heroes. Naming this park after Cpl. Singh will serve as a source of pride and inspiration for generations to come.
We call on Sacramento County and the Sunrise Recreation and Park District to reconsider their decision and allow this park to carry the name of a young man who gave everything for his country and community.
Please sign and share this petition to help us honor Corporal Gurpreet Singh's legacy.
UPDATE 10/15/2025
We’re excited to share some positive news! 🌟
The Sunrise Recreation & Park District has been supportive and receptive to the proposal to rename Almond Grove Park in honor of U.S. Marine Corporal Gurpreet Singh. The discussion has been moving in a positive direction, and we’re deeply grateful for the thoughtful consideration and encouragement shown by the Advisory Board.
Right now, the District is in the process of updating its Park Naming Policy, which is a necessary step before the proposal can move forward officially. We’re patiently waiting for that policy change to be finalized, and we’re optimistic about the next steps.
This effort is not just about renaming a park, but about honoring a hero, celebrating community, and ensuring Corporal Gurpreet Singh’s legacy lives on where he grew up and played.
With gratitude,
Manpreet Kaur
