Living in Bengaluru, one of the most bustling and vibrant cities in India, I have always been proud to call it home. However, a pressing issue has begun to overshadow the charm of our beloved city—unauthorised constructions and unethical parking practices. As a resident keenly affected by these developments, I feel compelled to take action.

Every day, I witness the unauthorised ramps that spring up overnight, encroaching on footpaths meant for pedestrians. These constructions make it nearly impossible for pedestrians to safely walk, forcing individuals, including school children and the elderly, to walk on the roads, risking their lives amidst heavy traffic. This rampant encroachment is not just inconvenient; it’s dangerous.

Furthermore, unethical parking habits exacerbate the problem. Vehicles parked haphazardly on footpaths and stormwater drains disrupt the natural flow of water, contributing to severe waterlogging during monsoon seasons. Roads that should facilitate smooth traffic flow become chaotic, increasing commute times and creating a hostile environment for drivers and pedestrians alike.

The Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) has existing laws and regulations to prevent such unauthorized constructions and parking issues. However, lack of enforcement has led to a significant increase in violations. Public spaces and infrastructure are meant for the community, yet they are being monopolized by a few individuals who disregard regulations.

We propose immediate action to tackle this issue. The enforcement of existing laws must be intensified, with stringent penalties for offenders. A dedicated task force should be established within BBMP specifically to manage and oversee the removal of unauthorized structures and enforce parking regulations. This task force should work collaboratively with local residents and interest groups to identify hotspots and take immediate action.

Use of technology, such as a centralized digital platform for reporting violations, will empower residents to take an active role in maintaining the integrity of our city's infrastructure. Additionally, regular audits and public updates on the progress of this initiative should be made mandatory.
