The Issue

Petition for Hartlepool Borough Council to act on removing the traffic light system from Easington Roundabout.
1000 Signatures and the council have to discuss it in a meeting.

This is not about the pedestrian crossings situated around this roundabout. Its purely the traffic controlling lights that are the issue.

Before the roadworks altered the roundabout on Easington Road, between Hart Road and West View Road, traffic flowed freely (even at peak times). The journey through this area used to be straightforward, hassle-free, and without the constant stop-and-go friction that traffic lights have now introduced. Since the installation of these traffic lights, there have been constant disruptions, transforming what was once a seamless commute into an ongoing traffic jam.

This intersection is a vital route for local residents and businesses in Hartlepool, carrying thousands of vehicles each day. It was functioning well before the introduction of these lights, with no significant congestion issues being reported. The current situation, however, not only wastes time but also increases pollution and fuel consumption as vehicles sit idling at these unnecessary signals. This is also in a weakened economy where the electricity costs are absurd, which is money being spent by the local tax payer to power the lights and automation.

The community deserves to have their roads restored to their former efficiency. A viable solution is the removal of these traffic lights, allowing the roundabout to function as it originally did. This change will relieve daily commuters, decrease vehicle emission levels, and improve overall road efficiency.
