We, the residents of Haliburton Subdivision in Stillwater Lake, Nova Scotia, are asking Halifax Regional Municipality to remove the traffic calming structures installed in our subdivision.

These speed humps are causing more problems than they solve. They slow down fire trucks, ambulances, and police responding to emergencies, and those seconds can matter when someone's life is on the line. In winter, they make it much harder for plows to clear snow and ice properly, leaving behind uneven, hazardous road surfaces. Driving over speed humps repeatedly also puts extra strain on vehicles over time, including the suspension and undercarriage, which is an unfair cost for residents just trying to drive on their own streets. Instead of calming traffic, they often lead to harder braking and acceleration between bumps, which only adds to the noise and disruption.

We believe there are better, less disruptive options, like radar speed signage, community speed watch programs, and targeted enforcement. We're asking HRM to remove these structures and work with us to find solutions that improve safety without these downsides.
