As a student at Purdue University Northwest (PNW), I am strongly opposed to the harmful impact that Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is having on our campus.

TPUSA is a national organization founded by Charlie Kirk with a long recorded history of spreading misinformation as well as racist, sexist, xenophobic, and extremist fascist ideologies, including forms of Christian nationalism. 

In just a short time, their presence on campus has already caused harm. In the now viral video, a professor who spoke out against TPUSA’s fascist rhetoric at a meeting is being harassed online. Fox News covered this incident as well, bringing even more unwanted hostility and attention on our campus.

Many comments supporting TPUSA are openly racist and derogatory towards this professor. TPUSA’s tactics encourage harassment and threaten academic freedom. This situation shows how quickly the harm and controversy escalate when their extremist ideologies are called out. Their presence makes marginalized students and faculty feel unsafe, targeted, and harassed.

No group is entitled to university endorsement or funding, especially when its ideology is against inclusion, safety, and the well-being of students and faculty members. Student organizations should enhance the university atmosphere, not create division or fear. 

My peers and professors deserve a learning environment free from hate and intimidation caused by extremist influence. Marginalized groups, in particular, are put at risk when organizations promote rhetoric that targets their identities. Removing TPUSA as a recognized student organization is a necessary step toward protecting our community and upholding the values the campus claims to stand for.
