Remove toxic chemicals sprayed near Homes,Schools, Greenbelts, and parks in Mission Viejo
The Issue
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, attributed predominantly to environmental factors rather than genetic ones. In our community, multiple young individuals have fallen victim to cancer, their vibrant lives darkened by a disease that shouldn't claim them this soon. It's not just humans being affected—our neighborhood pets, once lively, now suffer seizures after simple walks in our nearby green belt, consuming the very plants and grass once thought safe.
This issue stems from the toxic chemicals relentlessly sprayed near our beloved schools, park slopes, and green belts. What we once considered zones of recreation and learning for our children, areas where community thrived, have become perilous places posing severe health hazards. Reports are increasingly naming these chemicals as culprits behind an uptick in allergies, chronic illnesses, and disturbingly high cancer rates.
Statistics have shown a stark elevation in cancer cases in regions heavily exposed to these chemicals. According to the Environmental Working Group, over 90% of schools in the U.S. alone are within a mile of areas regularly treated with pesticides and herbicides, many containing compounds detrimental to human and animal health. These substances are known disruptors of hormonal and immune systems, potentially leading to severe conditions such as cancer and neurological issues.
It is within our power to demand change. By advocating for the prohibition of these toxic sprays around sensitive community areas, we can protect our streets, our homes, and most importantly, our children’s futures from preventable diseases. Our leaders need to prioritize public health over industrial convenience, ensuring a safer environment for current and future generations.
We call upon local officials, environmental agencies, and schools to implement stricter regulations against the use of such chemicals in proximity to public spaces. Alternatives such as non-toxic pest control methods and organic land management must be promoted to create a safer, healthier community environment.
Together, our voices can make a difference. Urge our local government to take immediate action in banning these harmful practices by signing this petition. Your signature is a step towards a future where our loved ones can live freely, breathe easily, and flourish without fear of the environment they grow up in.
