REMOVE THE SCAFFOLDING THAT BLIGHTS THE WOOD NOW!
The Issue
REMOVE THE SCAFFOLDING THAT BLIGHTS THE WOOD, NOW!
To LCP Properties, Hertfordshire County Council and Hertsmere Borough Council
We have had enough. The ugly 50m long scaffolding that adorns Shenley Road has been there for almost a year with barely any work being performed on it since August 2025.
This eyesore brings shame upon our town. Worse still, dozens of people have been injured tripping over the rotting wooden bases including older people, children with disabilities and mobility scooter users.
Our local shops below are losing business, the tenants in the building and shopkeepers are being made to foot the bill with service charge hikes of up to £5,000 a year.
Many Woodies no longer visit the high street, including wheelchair users and visually impaired people who are too afraid to do so.
Enough is enough. Between you, as the owner, the authority that issues the Scaffolding Licence and the authority responsible for Environmental Health, you need to sort it out.
We demand that:
Any remaining safety work is completed urgently.
The scaffolding is removed within 1 week of that work being completed.
Any unreasonable service charges made to tenants, leaseholders and shopkeepers are rescinded.
We want our Village back!
Councillor Graeme Alexander, Hertsmere First Independents, ward councillor for Borehamwood Brookmeadow
