Remove the film "Split" for its Misrepresentation of Dissociative Identity Disorder

Remove the film "Split" for its Misrepresentation of Dissociative Identity Disorder
The Issue
I write this plea from a deeply personal perspective. Every day, I grapple with a complex and often misunderstood mental disorder—Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), more affectionately known to me as co-conscious and blending DID. Dealing with this disorder is not only physically exhausting, but mentally draining as well. DID remains a controversial and frequently misunderstood topic, especially for those unwilling to learn and educate themselves about it. The existence of various types of this disorder, coupled with the unwillingness of many to believe in or understand it fully, has made its societal perception problematic.
My concern lies particularly with the popular Hollywood film "Split." This film presents a grossly exaggerated and inaccurate depiction of DID, contributing to the misunderstanding, stigmatization, and oversimplification of this intricate mental health disorder. Far from providing viewers with a meaningful insight into the struggle of people living with DID, the film perpetuates harmful stereotypes.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 2% of the population experiences DID, equating to millions of people across the globe (NAMI, 2020). For this sizable chunk of the population, and for people like myself, movies like "Split" are not simply fictional entertainment. They are damaging, hurtful works that hamper our journey towards acceptance and understanding.
For the sake of those living with DID and for the sake of accurate, respectful depiction of mental health disorders in the media, I implore you to support our call to permanently remove the film "Split" from all platforms. Let’s work together to promote accurate and considerate portrayals of mental health in the media. I urge you to sign this petition.
