REMOVE The Dedicated Bus Lanes in Downtown Culver City and the Culver Arts District

The Issue

We ask that the dedicated bus lanes be returned to multi use traffic lanes as soon as possible. And that the traffic signals be re-engineered to make the traffic, pedestrian and bicycle flow as efficient as possible.

The $2.7Million+ "MOVE" Culver City, traffic and mobility project may have had good intentions, however the results have been a resounding failure. The negative effects of removing a lane of traffic on Washington and Culver Blvds. (From La Cienega Place to Duquesne) in both directions, far outweigh any positive effects it may have had.

This project has negatively effected residents, commuters, shoppers, businesses and lowered the quality of life for everyone that has to deal with this poorly designed and executed project. The bus lanes are underutilized. The traffic signals have illogical sequences, poor timing and no synchronization. Traffic is worse than it has ever been. Traffic jamTypical traffic at a standstill on Washington

The MOVE project also has a negative impact on the environment, with cars sitting and idling twice as long as before, multiplied by thousands of cars a day, the negative effects are unacceptable. The effect on business is hard to gauge, however we've seen many shut down since the launch of the project, while many potential customers state that they simply avoid the area as a destination.GridlockGridlock in downtown, a daily occurrence

There are also issues with poorly implemented paint along the route which continues to peel away and wash down the storm drains to the ocean.Washed Off Paint
A second layer of paint deteriorating and washing down the storm drains

The hundreds of bollards along the route are an eyesore, they're confusing and a hazard in certain areas. The decaying bus platforms are dangerous to the pedestrians and cyclists that have to cross them.Platform
One of the damaged platforms that pedestrians and bicycles "share"

The odd right turn bollards make cycling more hazardous at some intersections. Most of the dedicated bicycle lanes are not maintained, or inaccessible, so they're often full of debris and are often used by service vehicles as a parking or loading lane.

Bus ridership has not had a marked increase compared to PRE-Covid numbers, busses have run smoothly along Culver and Washington Blvd. for years. There is no justification to continue the dedicated Bus Lanes.

In a recent survey conducted by Culver City, it revealed that 85% of those responding, either oppose the project entirely or want it changed.

Bottom Line: The Bus lanes make bus travel in the 2 miles of the MOVE project about 5-10% faster, but if you're actually commuting for a distance, your overall travel time on that bus is still slower than a car or motorcycle.
However the 2 miles of MOVE forces thousands of cars and people to sit twice as long or longer in those 2 miles. Bad for the environment, a huge and unnecessary inconvenience for all.
The busses worked fine when all the lanes were shared, and the meager 5-10% increase in bus speed for those few miles is no incentive for anyone to get out of their cars or off their motorcycles.

We ask that all the dedicated bus lanes be returned to multi use traffic lanes as soon as possible. And that the traffic signals be re-engineered to make the traffic, pedestrian and bicycle flow as efficient as possible.RE:Move Culver City
Please "redo"the move the project and get our city moving again!
