Remove Shark Nets to Protect Marine Life
Remove Shark Nets to Protect Marine Life
The issue
Growing up, I have always been passionate about marine life. The ocean has this magical allure that pulls you in and mesmerizes you with its beauty. However, in the recent years, I have been alarmed by our failure to protect the precious life beneath the ocean's surface. In particular, the presence of shark nets has been causing significant distress to marine life, and it deeply saddens me to see these creatures inadvertently trapped.
Shark nets, aimed at making our beaches safer, are doing more harm than good. The nets do not discriminate between predatory sharks and harmless marine life. Consequently, dolphins, turtles, and even whales, become victims of these nets intended to keep sharks from popular beaches. According to the Australian Marine Conservation Society, over the past 50 years, shark nets and drum lines have killed more than 85,000 marine animals in Queensland alone.
This ongoing devastation needs to be stopped. Safe, non-lethal alternatives, such as drone surveillance or localized shark alarms, are successful in other parts of the world. The solution should involve saving both human lives and marine life.
Therefore, let's treat the ocean with the respect it deserves. Let's allow marine life to swim freely without the fear of getting caught in nets. I urge you to sign this petition to remove the shark nets and help push for more sustainable, non-lethal alternatives. Your support can make a significant difference. Please sign this petition today and help us protect these incredible creatures and their habitat.
