The Issue

To: The Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education, and Members of Parliament

If India is to unlock its full potential, compete on the global stage, and build a truly equitable society, our national policies must be built on a foundation of uncompromising meritocracy.

Currently, our academic admissions and public sector appointments rely heavily on multi-tiered reservation systems, varying state cut-offs, and category-based concessions. While these policies were created with positive intentions, a nation’s long-term progress depends on empowering the most capable, dedicated, and qualified individuals in every field.

We believe the true path forward for India rests on two fundamental pillars:

 1. Equal Cut-Offs and Uniform Standards for All

Selection for academic institutions and government posts should be based entirely on individual performance and merit. Cut-off marks, entrance criteria, and qualification standards must be strictly identical for every citizen, regardless of caste, region, or background. A unified standard ensures fairness, raises the overall quality of our institutions, and rewards hard work.

 2. Financial Aid for the Economically Disadvantaged

Socioeconomic hardship should never prevent a bright student from pursuing their education. However, the appropriate solution to economic disadvantage is financial assistance, not lower academic bars. The government should provide comprehensive financial aid—such as full tuition coverage, stipends, and learning resources—to students from low-income families, ensuring they have equal tools to compete on equal footing.

 Why This Matters

Dignity of Merit: A uniform evaluation system builds trust in our educational and public institutions, ensuring that every professional is recognized solely for their capability.

Level Playing Field: Providing financial aid solves the root cause of inequality (lack of resources) without compromising standards or lowering performance bars.

National Excellence: For India to lead globally in science, technology, administration, and industry, we must nurture and select talent based strictly on excellence.

We urge the Government of India to review current reservation policies and transition toward a single, unified, merit-based selection system paired with robust financial aid for economically weaker sections.
