The red light camera at Thickwood Blvd and Real Dr east bound right hand turn is a money grab and the citizens of Fort McMurray are fed up with this particular function of this camera. The money from the many tickets produced by this sensitive camera on right hand turns goes partly to Global Traffic Control and is removed from our local economy. 

This intersection has a dedicated right hand turning lane which can seem quite similar to a merge lane that only requires a yield. The fact that this camera is constantly fining good/safe drivers for slowly turning right is unacceptable. People are getting $405 fines for slowly merging on yellows or waiting for the intersection to clear before turning right. 

To be clear, we agree with council that speed cameras do improve safety in the community, but this one camera in particular and it’s right turn red light photos need to be stopped. It is exploiting a corner that should have its own merge lane for turning right. The public in this petition support either constructing a right turn merge lane or removing the right turn red light function on this camera.
