The brumbies, iconic symbols of Australia's wild and free spirit, are being culled using aerial shooting, an approach known to cause severe distress, prolonged suffering, and unnecessary loss of life due to its indiscriminate nature. These horses have historical and cultural significance; they were crucial to our pioneers and have become a beloved part of the landscape. It's not enough to justify these acts by claiming management necessities when viable and humane options are available and have been blatantly disregarded.

In 2020, the government underscored the importance of using non-lethal horse management techniques whenever possible, emphasizing transparency and community involvement. Sharpe’s decision not only breaks these commitments but also betrays the trust of Australians who expect ethical governance. Wildlife experts and community members have previously presented workable solutions such as fertility control, relocation, and ongoing research to manage these populations without resorting to brutal measures.
